What are some typical ways to socialize, either with local people or with other expatriates? Are there groups or clubs that you can recommend?
There isn’t much to do on the local economy in terms of entertainment but the embassy community and expat community as a whole does a great job of planning lots of social functions and events. The beach is popular, BBQs at the embassy pool. The Community Liaison Office (CLO) always has something going on and there always seems to be a dinner or a wine and cheese event to attend every week. Honestly, I thought I was going to be in a sleepy post with nothing to do and I feel like my social calendar is more full than ever (this is largely thanks to the great community at post). - Jan 2023
Most people go to the beach on the weekends, and camping once every month or every few months. Day trips in 4x4s to local dunes or just driving on the beach is also an option. House parties during non-covid times are frequent. There is one art gallery/farmers market run by a French expat on Saturdays that is popular, and the French institute has small outdoor concerts and other events. It is a slow, quiet pace of life here, but there are definitely activities especially if you can make friends with the French expat community. - Aug 2021

We are a "make your own fun" post. Since this is a dry country and there are really NO public places where diplomats or expatriates gather, our Embassy hosts monthly happy hours with beer and wine which go over very well and are a great morale booster. The Community Liaison Office Coordinator (CLO) works very hard to make things fun for us. There is monthly trivia night, and people entertain in their homes. Things are busier than one would expect. - May 2016

Most entertaining happens at others' homes or at embassies. There are some nightclubs, but I am the wrong person to ask. People seem to be very good at making their own fun. - Aug 2011
