What have been the highlights of your time in this country? Best trips or experiences?
Trips to St Louis in Senegal and camping trips to Banc d’Arguin are beautiful retreats. Really though, the Embassy community makes this post top notch. Morale is high and there is always something going on. - Jan 2023

I enjoyed driving on the beach, driving to the sand dunes and walking the streets while listening to the people and the traffic that I so looked forward to prior to coming to Nouakchott. There is life in the city but you have to get out and see it rather than just stay home. - Sep 2020

The people are amazing. The beaches are a sight to behold. They're clean and unincorporated. There is a nice place north of NKC where you can rent a tent on the beach, build a bonfire, etc. And the star gazing is beyond believe - take a camera! - Dec 2015
Rare visits to cultural sites outside Nouakchott, the close community of western diplomats and expats, developing friendships with moderate Mauritanians. The proximity to France is also a plus. Most westerners visit France during their tour in Mauritania to get their fix of pork and wine. - Apr 2014
