Vientiane - Post Report Question and Answers
What household or grocery items do you wish you had shipped to post?
I brought a lot of cleaning products, contact lens solution, and personal care items (lotions, hair products, deodorant). I'm glad I did. Canned tomatoes are expensive. Vinegar is oddly expensive, and apple cider vinegar is the only type you can find reliably. Olive oil is expensive. Good olives are nowhere to be seen. U.S. diplomatic mission people can order from the Bangkok commissary once per month, and there is a very good selection of items on that list. - Dec 2024
I wish I shipped more pasta sauces I like as there are limited selections here. We shipped a lot of laundry detergent (Tide), dishwashing liquid (Dawn), mosquito repellent (spray), and sunscreen (aerosol) in our consumables shipment. Others made sure they shipped a lot of wines/beers/hard liquors that they like. There is a commissary in Bangkok that you can order from but it can be a little expensive with limited inventory. - Mar 2024
Maybe cleaning supplies? We did have some issues with ants so maybe products to deal with pests would be a good idea as well. - Jun 2020
None yet. We get most things on the local economy. - Oct 2018
Car items, as we often waited for Amazon to deliver wipers, filters, etc. Tires. We came to post with nice tires, ended up blowing two of them, and got the best they had, which looked a little used to me. - Jan 2014
