Is it easy to make friends with locals here? Are there any prejudices or any ethnic groups who might feel uncomfortable here?
The Dutch are very pragmatic and proud. I think as long as you appreciate that Dutch culture is different than American culture and you make an effort to understand how the Dutch have influenced the United States, the Dutch will welcome you in. - Mar 2025
This is a common complaint. You'll find that almost everyone in expat circles says they have hardly any Dutch friends. The Dutch have a reputation of being more closed-off and less open to integrating people into their friend groups, so you'll likely find that most of your friends are other internationals. - May 2022

We have. Some consider the Dutch to be insulated and stand-offish but we haven't found that to be the case. - Jan 2019
