What types of jobs do most expatriate spouses/partners have? Locally based or telecommuting? Full-time or part-time? Can you comment on local salary scales?

EFM employment has not been much of an issue here. Lots of spouses brought their USG or private sector drop with them. It's also easy to work at the Embassy or on the local economy. - Mar 2025


There are a good amount of EFM jobs at the Embassy and lots of people telecommute as well. Surprisingly, I haven't heard of many people with local jobs but I'm not sure if there are barriers or if that's just a matter of preference. Salaries are good, but still less than the U.S. - May 2022


There are some EFM positions at post (embassy and consulate). There may be opportunities at the American school or on the local market. - Feb 2021


There is a bilateral work agreement so EFMs can work on the local market . We currently have about 18 EFM positions at post (including Amsterdam) and usually have vacancies available. - Jan 2019
