Guatemala City - Post Report Question and Answers

What types of jobs do most expatriate spouses/partners have? Locally based or telecommuting? Full-time or part-time? Can you comment on local salary scales?

There are jobs at the embassy. Many people seem to telework. It is hard to find local jobs. - Mar 2023

EFMs often work at the embassy. Some have remote jobs or are independent workers. - Oct 2022

You can easily work remotely here. You could work on the economy if you wish, but salaries will be pretty low. Most of the EFM jobs at the embassy require fluent Spanish. - Oct 2022

Most everyone I know who wants to work has found a job at the Embassy (typical EFM type of jobs). A few telework and a few others teach. - Jan 2020

Limited embassy offerings. - Feb 2019

To some extent. There are jobs at the embassy and some folks work on the local employment market, although pay is not that good. - Nov 2011

No. - May 2010

There are a lot of teachers here. But in general I don't think the pay is very good unless you're at one of the main English speaking schools. You won't make much as a private tutor. - Mar 2008
