What is the typical dress code at work and in public places? Is formal dress ever required?

Dress is business casual in the workplace. Those who meet with outside contacts dress up more than those who don't. Outside the city, it is sundresses and safari chic! Everything will get dusty so durable clothes are a good idea. - Jul 2024

This depends on your place of work. I worked in a diplomatic mission and just went for the comfortable but 'smart professional' look. No heels or make up needed. - Jan 2021

Business casual. - Jan 2016

Business at work and conservative/casual in public. - Jun 2015

Embassy dress is pretty standard for an embassy: dress shirts, ties, dresses. Out in public it's more casual: jeans are acceptable even at expensive restaurants, but I wouldn't go out in short shorts or a miniskirt. - May 2013

Pretty casual. A bit more polished at work (sports coat and maybe tie for men/dress or skirt/slacks and blouse for women). - Jan 2013

Suit and tie for men at the Embassy, and business attire for women. In public anything goes and folks are very casual and dress pretty safari-like. - Jul 2012
