Are there any particular health concerns? What is the quality of available medical care? What medical conditions typically require medical evacuation?
COVID-19. Apart from COVID, the medical care is very good at the private hospitals. South Africa is a medevac destination for other countries in the region for this reason. - Aug 2021

No special health concerns, and for people with access to private medical care, it is world-class quality at developing world prices. Americans will be amazed to pay full-price cash here for less than their co-pay at home. If you need a specialist, UCT (University of Cape Town) has one. - Feb 2018
Local medical care is probably the best in Sub-Saharan Africa and is of a Western standard. Cape Town/Johannesburg is actually the medical evacuation point for most nearby countries, and a number of people I know have given birth here. - Oct 2017

I have not had any experience with this, as my kids are very healthy. That said, there are lots of good doctors and pharmacies around. South Africa is the medical evacuation point for Embassies in the southern Africa region. - Aug 2013
HIV/AIDS is rampant, so unprotected sex is a massive risk. World class health care for those few (such as expats) with the means to pay for it or a quality medical insurance program. We use private doctors under our insurance and have received better care than we would have in the USA. - Oct 2007
