How much of the local language do you need for daily living? Are local language classes/tutors available and affordable?
Local language is definitely recommended to learn as not many people speak English here, although I have an impression that a lot of people understand English but are shy to speak. - Oct 2021
Expats need to be able to read Cyrillic. Language classes are available for embassy personnel and family. Minsk Linguistic University is also an option. - Apr 2019
You must know Russian unless you just plan to never go out, or plan on learning it as soon as you arrive. It's very difficult otherwise. - Oct 2011
