What are some typical ways to socialize, either with local people or with other expatriates? Are there groups or clubs that you can recommend?

Getting involved with locals socially can be tough. People are lot as immediately warm and open here as they are in some other Latin American countries, so if you come expecting that you will be disappointed. Family events are also big here. The embassy (pre-pandemic) organized plenty of outings and events. - Dec 2020


Get out there. If you expect others to knock on your door you are guaranteed to have a very boring life in Santiago. Join Meet-up groups aligned to your hobbies. Here is a reference for you: I have yet to be invited to the home of a Chilean after being here for two years. - Jun 2019


There's lots of restaurant, bars, discos, concerts of all kinds, movies, plays, ballet, art exhibits. Every year there are a ton of ferias during the summer from food/beer to clothing/shoes. Tons of social things, there's the hash if you know what that is and tons of other activities that you can just join to learn. - Feb 2016
