Would someone with physical disabilities have difficulties living in this city?
Milan's public transport might pose some challenges. The older trams have stairs, and many metro stops don't have elevators. Elevators in buildings tend to be really small, and oftentimes there are stairs at the entrance. Compared with much of the world, though, and with careful planning, I think Milan could be manageable. - Jun 2018
Yes. Unfortunately you can't find elevators or ramps everywhere, and if you do they might be too narrow for a wheelchair to get in. Doorways are often very narrow too, especially in the older buildings. Broad cobblestones, high entries to trams, steps to get into shops... - Sep 2016
Not every building has elevators and elevators are often too small for a wheelchair. Sidewalks are more navigable that I thought they would be. This is city is laid out in a grid with rationale streets and transportation. Some say that makes it less charming than Rome. I say it makes it more livable. - Aug 2013
Substantial. Many buildings are old and do not have elevators or ramps. Most metro stations do not have escalators or elevators. - Jun 2010
The city is not handicap friendly in the least! Even strollers have problems here. Skinny sidewalks and hardly ever a sidewalk ramps to get to the street. - Jan 2008
