Timor is what you make of it. It is an island post with poor internet, isolated and not a lot of indoor activities but it does have a very laid back lifestyle, quiet evenings enjoying the breeze, weekends diving, snorkeling or boating, easy excursions to Bali, Australia, Singapore or New Zealand and a pretty easy outdoor life. It can be hard for singles who don't get out much and can be really hard for teenagers with the lack of things to do. Families with small kids tend to do very well. - May 2017

I think this is a great place for each category. Families get lots of pool, beach, play time with the added bonus of affordable full time help. There are a lot of families with young children. Singles can have great hikes, diving and day trips, and lots of local bars and restaurants. Couples are in the same boat as singles here. - Mar 2010
We have all three in our communtiy and most seem to be very happy. There is really nothing to do in Dili outside of making your own fun. There is no movie theater, mall, shopping, bowling ect. We go to the beach, diving, swimming at the pools, each others homes ect. - Feb 2010
