What typical restaurants, food delivery services, and/or takeout options are popular among expatriates?

Eating out is generally affordable here. If you look hard enough, you can find a great variety of foods from around the world. Though customer-facing associates are almost always friendly and polite, you can expect a S-L-O-W pace when being served. Budget at least an hour for an average meal out. - Aug 2022
A number of chain stores are everywhere and excellent: KFC and McDonalds are popular, as are local Nando's, Steers, and Chicken Licken. Uber Eats delivers everywhere, MrD is also popular. Mid-range restaurant chains are also a popular option: Tasha's, Hussar Grill, Ocean Basket, Pizza e Vino, Rocomama's. Fine dining is very accessible. - Jun 2022
There are tons of restaurants featuring all major cuisines - everything from Korean BBQ to Italian to Lebanese to traditional South African. Even the most expensive restaurants in the city are significantly cheaper than in the U.S. - Oct 2019
The restaurant scene in Joburg is large and thriving. There are great options for all kinds of food, and it's all delicious. You can get Chinese, fast food, pizza, etc, by delivery, and Uber Eats has recently started up (although I haven't used it). - Apr 2017
Um.. Everything! McDonalds delivers! KFC has been here a long time. There is also Burger King, Domino's Pizza. But better yet, support the local chains or small family-owned restaurants. - Sep 2016

Fast food chains include: Wimpy (hamburger place: it's gross), Steers (another hamburger place: it's okay), Nando's (grilled chicken: it's good), Anat (kebabs, schwarmas: it's good) KFC, and McDonalds are some of the Fast Food locations. Dine in resturants are plentiful and very good, there are a lot of good steak houses (Turn n Tender and Grill House are good), Greek (Plaka is good), Seafood (Fishmonger is good), African (Moyo is good and popular) and Italian (Asiago and Sala di Pepe are good) restaurants. Pricing is reasonable and in most cases cheaper than the U.S. - Jul 2010
