Valletta - Post Report Question and Answers

Are there personal security concerns to be aware of at this post? Please describe.

The most unsafe thing I did was survive Maltese road rage. Do NOT drive slow when they would like to try-out for the Daytona 500 and there is no room to pass you. - May 2023

Not really. Standard street smarts will get you by just fine. The economy is doing well, so crime is low. Right now Malta is very safe. If the economy tanks, that would change a bit. - Oct 2018

Maltese are not that security conscious because they've never had to be. It's quite interesting. But, Malta is fairly safe. Tourism is high, so those types of crimes prevail. Club drugs, fist fights, petty thefts, etc. Cell phones left unattended will vaporize. Sometimes you get European criminal gangs coming in to pickpocket. But, all in all, you're safer in Malta than big cities around the world. Common sense prevails. And, the RSO office is excellent and puts out useful info at the first hint of an issue, so they keep people informed. - Sep 2016

Malta is generally very safe country. Occasional pickpocketing in tourist areas. The smaller villages experience little to no crime. It is very safe to walk at night, just be conscious as in any place. There is a notoriously dicey area called Paceville that experiences some crime due to bars, adult scenes and late hours. - Jan 2014

No. - Feb 2010

The driving is horrendous and the Maltese are donkey-like, brutish people who have never believed themselves to be wrong. The roads are in even worse condition. In general though, very safe for foreigners when not driving. - Feb 2010

None - Jul 2009
