Dushanbe - Post Report Question and Answers
What types of jobs do most expatriate spouses/partners have? Locally based or telecommuting? Full-time or part-time? Can you comment on local salary scales?
Embassy Dushanbe is one of the best posts for EFM employment; there are lots of jobs available and many of them are really substantial. A couple spouses worked in local international schools, a couple teleworked their US jobs, but the majority were at the Embassy. - Aug 2021
The Embassy actually has a fairly robust EFM workforce - most people who wanted to work while we were here had the opportunity. Those who don't want to work at the embassy sometimes had difficulty finding something fulfilling. Local salaries are generally low by comparison. - Apr 2021
No - Dec 2015
They exist but are not abundant. Mostly gigs within the non-profit/development world. - Jun 2014
Not many good paying jobs. - Mar 2014
At the school and with a few NGOs. - Oct 2013
Very few at the embassy. There are a few at the school and at the NGO's on the local economy. - Jan 2012
At NGOs, there are a few, but without Tajik or Russian, it would be hard. And those that are available pay badly. (The average Tajik salary is less than $100/mo). The Embassy makes a mighty effort to employ spouses. - Jun 2009
No, not for any reasonable fee. Salaries are really low. If you speak Russian or Tajik, it's possible to work for another NGO or other foreign organization, but it's not usually for the money. - Jul 2008
