Dushanbe - Post Report Question and Answers

Is this a good city for LGBT expatriates? Why or why not?

No, Tajikistan does not formally recognize same sex partnerships (even among diplomats) and it's my understanding, can be pretty hostile about it. - Aug 2021

I would say no. The host nation does not support visas for same sex spouses, which has caused a few issues in the past years. Similarly the culture is not overly tolerant of same sex relationships. - Apr 2021

From what I understand, most people in Tajikistan are not accepting of the LGBT community. - Jun 2020

No although you probably won't be bothered if you are a diplomat. - Dec 2015

No. It's best to keep a low profile. - Oct 2013

I haven't heard. - Jan 2012

In the expat community, probably okay, but very limited. In the local community, no. - Jun 2009

I don't know about covertly, but overtly, I don't think it's accepted. - Jul 2008
