Hermosillo - Post Report Question and Answers
Are local buses, trams, trains or taxis safe and affordable?
We are not allowed to use public transportation. However, we can use Uber. It's affordable and reliable but wait times can be up to 20 minutes. That's rare though. - Sep 2024
This is definitely a personal vehicle city. There are local buses but we are not allowed to use them. There are taxis but they aren't prevalent like large cities. Uber is available. - Jun 2023
Not safe. You can use Uber, which is extremely cheap throughout Mexico. I have heard instances of racism by drivers and that sometimes they demand extra payment in cash. - Sep 2022
Follow the advice given in the RSO briefing. Taxis, trains, buses etc are generally off-limits. I've used Uber a few times and I have been fine, but I would recommend having and using your own car. - Sep 2022
Although there are all sorts of cars here, a car with clearance is recommended to safely and reliably get around. Many people have RAV4s, Highlanders, and 4Runners. Car service is available for cars who are diplomatically registered. Many people drive up to Tucson for car service, as well. Uber is available. Other local transport not recommended. - Aug 2022
No. And they are not really available. The only place you can even find a taxi is at the airport. - Aug 2015
No. The buses are crazy and unreliable. We have taken occasional taxis from the airport but not within the city. - Apr 2013
Forget public transportation in Hermosillo. Buses are unsafe, unreliable and extremely inconvenient. There are no passenger trains or light rail. Taxis are expensive and sometimes don't show up when you call them. Having your own vehicle is a necessity. - Dec 2009
There are no urban trains. Buses are cheap and the public bus fleet was renewed in 2007.Taxis tend to be safe and affordable but small. - Feb 2008
