What is the availability and cost of household help, and what types of help are typically employed by expatriates?
I have a housekeeper come once a week and pay her $500 MXN for the day. Families typically have babysitters and nannies but I don't know the cost. Many housekeepers are also willing to do light cooking and laundry. - Sep 2024
I think most people employ at least a housekeeper. It's easy to find a part-time housekeeper who comes to your house 1 or 2 days a week. I think around 500 MXN pesos is typical for a day of cleaning. Some housekeepers will also cook and do laundry. Several families also employ babysitters or nineras, both full-time and part-time. Expect to pay about 100 MXN per hour. Nobody that I know of has a live-in helper. - Jun 2023
Reasonable. We pay a nanny about $20 USD/day for 6 hours and a housecleaner roughly the same for 8 hours, twice a week. - Sep 2022
There are plenty of good housekeepers ready to help or nannies. Just ask around in the community. - Sep 2022
The Community Liaison Office (CLO) is able to provide a contract for household help. Singles usually have a housekeeper come clean every one or two weeks. Families will often hire a housekeeper and/or nanny. Some houses with yards that require upkeep do have a gardener come once a month or so. Be prepared for an astroturf lawn; after all, this is a tropical desert. - Aug 2022
Very available. Most people pay about $25/day. - Aug 2015
There is ready availability of domestic help. We have a housekeeper who came 3x per week for about $15 day. We also had a full-time nanny for about $150 per week. Many of my Mexican friends have live-in nannies who work 6 days for slightly less than I was paying for ours. The consulate community seems to pass the same nannies around, and they are all very good. - Apr 2013
Widely available and reasonably priced compared to the U.S. - Dec 2009
Readily available and affordable. You can get a live in-maid/babysitter for approximately US$400 to US$500 per month. Gardeners, general outside clean up/maintenance workers, etc., are also readily available and low cost. - Feb 2008
