What is the typical dress code at work and in public places? Is formal dress ever required?

As an EFM, I notice that the office seems to be a mix of business and business casual. Some people have on khakis and collared shirts, others collared shirts/ties, and an occasional suit. Women tend to wear slacks and nice blouses or a simple sheath dress. Basically, the mood seems to be "Do your job well and nobody is going to police your fashion choices". Again...I'm an EFM...so take that into consideration. In public, local women dress-up...even to walk around the mall. If you go to public events or a local citizen's barbecue...expect to dress up. No shorts for men and a dress/heels for women. - Aug 2023

Pretty laid-back culture for men's dress. Even high officials of the Honduran government go to lots of meetings without a suit or tie. Women can be laid-back too, but there may be stronger cultural expectations for women to be made-up and use inconveniently high heels (think the kind that make you walk in little mincing steps like your feet are bound). - May 2018
There is no strict dress code in public, but if you are a woman, I would not wear shorts unless as in my opinion, there was a lot of cat-calling and ogling. There is so much machismo and this country has a high rate of femicide. Despite that, most Honduran women wear tight jeans, tight shirts, tight dresses with short skirts and high heels. Attire at embassy is business casual, but some locals' outfits seem questionable. There are several formal events that diplomats are invited to, men typically wear a tux or their military dress, women in formal gowns. - May 2018
Mostly business dress at the embassy. For men, consular, political, and econ officers wear suits (or at least have a suit jacket ready to go). USAID and other State direct hires are ok with slacks and a button down. Whatever you want outside of work. No real comment for women. Honduran women wear tight dresses and heels. - Apr 2018
