Mbabane - Post Report Question and Answers

What are some typical ways to socialize, either with local people or with other expatriates? Are there groups or clubs that you can recommend?

Embassy social gatherings, wine tastings, and private barbeques (called “braais” locally) are the most common after hours events at post. Most venues, including local restaurants shut down early and have limited hours on weekends. Although there are a few special events such as the annual, internationally acclaimed Bushfire Music Festival and Luju Food/Fashion/Music Festival, both of which run throughout the weekend and offer great after hours fun. - Aug 2023

If we are in town, our weekends are full. There are always dinners and brunches and birthday parties and activities. We often take group camping trips with multiple families. There are monthly wine tastings and trivia nights. The local animal shelters often have dinners and movies. There is a national historical society that does monthly outdoor excursions. We find ourselves busy all the time! - Oct 2019

Most entertaining is done in people's homes, but restaurants here are pretty inexpensive, and people do go out to dinner often in Mbabane and Ezulwini. - Mar 2015

Mostly at home, but there are fundraising events all year long, and a few bars/restaurants at which people hang out. The CLO organizes events for both adults and children. A movie theatre just opened. - Feb 2011

Mostly in home stuff- lots of barbeques and dinners. There is a theatre club that we are hoping to re-energize. - Mar 2008
