What is the air quality like at post (good/moderate/bad)? Are there seasonal air quality issues? Does the air quality have an impact on health?
Kigali is a very green city but regardless air quality can be bad especially during dry seasons. It is located in quite a high altitude that requires time to adjust for a newcomer. - Oct 2023
Air quality is bad, and extremely bad during certain parts of the year. This came as a big shock to us, particularly given that Rwanda is otherwise impeccably clean. The air quality has become a major issue and concern for us, particularly since homes are very porous and there is really no way to escape it. Kigali is a great post, except for the air quality. Good to moderate. Almost no industry in Rwanda and while some cars are very polluting, traffic is only light to moderate. During the long dry season, some bad air can blow in, so my favorite time of year is the short dry season (northern winter). - Sep 2019

Air quality fluctuates. There's lots of dust, sometimes debris from burning (either for warmth or disposal), and some seasonal plant-related problems. I haven't found the air quality to impact my daily life. - Jan 2017
Though the air looks clean, according to the med unit, the air in Kigali can sometimes be 3x worse than the worse air quality in the U.S. due to lack of controls over emissions and all the motos. - Apr 2016
