Doha - Post Report Question and Answers

What kind of vehicle(s) including electric ones do you recommend bringing to post, given the terrain, infrastructure, availability of parts, burglary/carjacking risks, etc.? What kind of car or vehicles do you advise not to bring?

There are no risks except maybe a car accident from crazy drivers. Cars have to be younger than five years to be imported. I would just buy locally if you don’t have a car to bring. There is a huge expat population that always has cars for sale. - Oct 2024

Any kind of car would work here though I don't think you can ship an electric car anymore. You cannot import a car older than five years and that is literally down to the day it was created and when you ship it. An SUV gets better respect on the road, but any kind of car works. A car cannot have dents or scratches though (tiny ones would be passable). - Jun 2024

Qatar has the five year rule for bringing cars in so keep that in mind. There are always cars for sale through the embassy paper. I recommend a six-cylinder since it is very hot and you want a good air conditioner. There are many white carshere and mostly SUVs. No problem at all with safety and that will be by far the biggest joy of living here. With all the Land Cruisers/Rovers on the road, driving a civic might feel intimidating but is doable. Once you attend the camel races, the driving will make more sense. - Oct 2023
