Are credit cards widely accepted and safe to use locally? Are ATMs common and do you recommend using them? Are they safe to use?

Credit cards and ATMs from the states work here but you will incur an international transaction fee. If you are going to be here for a long time, it is better to t a Canadian credit card (we found PC Financial to be the best company for us.others wanted proof of a Canadian credit history which we didn't have.) - Sep 2010
