Are there personal security concerns to be aware of at this post? Please describe.
I always say this and I mean it...this was the safest place I have ever been to/lived in and probably will in my life. There are security cameras everywhere. Crime is taken very seriously. - Jan 2022

This is an extremely safe city and has been so for the two years we have been here. The biggest danger, I would say, are the drivers on the road. As far as personal security-close to no concerns. I have walked to work at 6 a.m. and walked the dog at 10 p.m. and I have felt very safe, probably because you just don't see people in the streets here. Generally, people do not walk much due to the heat as well as the fact that they are a very car-based society. There has been unarmed break-ins in a few non-embassy houses that I have heard of but I would call this an incidence rather than normal. - Aug 2017

No...really safe. Expect as a woman to be stared at...a lot. After about 9 months I got used to it. Mostly, indian workers stare. If you are of asian descent and a worker there is more of a concern. There are lots of rumors of mistreated housemaids - some I saw first hand. - Apr 2010
For men none, women its best to travel with a few friends. Most times just a comment or two to the blond ladies or if your Asian decent you may get comments as many locals think your hired help. Pretty safe for the most part. - Feb 2010
None that I can think of, except watch out for Omanis who will run you off the road and accuse of you of being disrespectful them (giving the bird, mouthing off, etc.) as a means of extorting money out of you. - Jan 2010
Oman is a peaceful country and the Omanis are friendly and helpful. There is a large expatriate labor force and I have found them to be hard working and friendly. I can say that I have never felt in danger here. As always, in any big city, you must be aware of your surroundings, know where your kids are, and keep crimes of opportunities low by locking your home, car, and watching your valuables. People here tend to do their daily activities in groups of friends or family; I follow that trend as much as possible in more isolated areas.
