Bangui - Post Report Question and Answers

How would you describe the availability and cost of groceries and household supplies relative to your home country?

There were two grocery store options at the time I lived there, primarily with French products. If you employ household staff they are better able to buy things on the local market for you. Don't forget to clean your vegetables with bleach. - Jun 2018

Items are limited and expensive. You are able to find almost anything to survive. ALMOST being the key word. There are two grocery stores that we were allowed to go to and they had a lot of items. Sometimes the country may run out of things like eggs and milk, but it's temporary and it only happened once when I was there. Lots of vegetables and certain fruits like pineapples, mangoes, and oranges. - Oct 2017

Very limited. There are a few groceries in town which stock western-style products, but they're off brand and very expensive. Fresh cheese or other dairy products are lacking. - Jan 2012
