Rabat - Post Report Question and Answers
Is this a "shopping post"? Are there interesting handicrafts, artwork, antiques, or other items that people typically buy there?
Yes. - May 2022
There are expats who spend a lot of time shopping at the medina buying rugs, ceramics and custom-made furniture. - Apr 2018
The potteries in Salé (just across the river from Rabat - about a 15 min drive from the Embassy) offer a huge array of pottery and furniture for insanely cheap prices (at least for the pottery).
Otherwise, rugs, ceramics, clothing, leather goods, etc. abound and are of very high quality. You can find anything in the medinas, but I recommend Fes for leather and rugs and Salé for pottery. Our CLO has tons of suggestions too. - Oct 2017
CARPETS! Make sure you have weight in your HHE to accommodate the carpets you will buy.
Woodworking, metal works, mosaic tiles, brass lamps, poufs, silver and gold jewelry, it's all here.
Be prepared to bargain your butt off to get the best prices (25-30 percent of the initial "ask"). - Oct 2017
