Do you have any recommendations regarding mobile phones? Did you keep your home-country plan or use a local provider?

Local provider phone plan is expensive, but adequate; no voicemail. Data usage peaks right after work hours, so WiFi is tight then as well. - Apr 2021

The local provider is via SIM card, then pay-as-you-go from street vendors all through the country. I had to bring in a copy of my passport to start an account and purchase the SIM. You should get the phone app, What's App.  Basic texting and sending photos via WA is fine, but the country's technology infrastructure cannot support video calls. - Jul 2020


People use Getesa aka Orange or Muni for phone service and Whatsapp for texting and free international calls with/without video. We also use Skype and the IVG to make calls to the U.S. - Aug 2017


There are three cell-phone carriers. The main one is Orange but coverage is not great at the Embassy compound. Embassy provided phones run through Muni, another telecon company. - Sep 2014
