Malabo - Post Report Question and Answers
What kinds of gyms or other sports/workout facilities are available? Are they expensive?
The local ocean boardwalk area has stationary equipment for public use; sometimes instructors lead group exercises there. The embassy hired contract fitness instructors to provide classes at the embassy and the ocean boardwalk (Paseo Maritimo), but since the pandemic we have something called Move Malabo, a brief 10 or 15-minute walk/stretch session. Gyms and sports facilities are here, but we have no info. - Apr 2021
There are some local establishments, such as a kickboxing group, yoga classes, and gyms. The neat thing about EG is that they have stationary exercise equipment along the "paseo," a boardwalk area that also has wide walkways for joggers, walkers, and bicyclists. The sunsets during the dry season (outside of December and January when the harmattan winds make it almost impossible to see and unhealthy to be outdoors for long periods) are AMAZING from the vantage point of the paseo. - Jul 2020
The embassy has a small gym on compound. The Hilton and Sofitel also have gyms. The Hilton gym membership is very expensive. It's free if you are staying there. You can find your specific sports interests if you make local friends. Golf, aerobics, and soccer are available. - Aug 2017
The Embassy has a small workout area with an elliptical, stationary bike, treadmill and stair master. There are gyms at a few of the hotels that offer passes for a hefty fee. - Sep 2014
The Hilton hotel has a gym and pool for an annual fee of $3000. I believe there are local places, but can’t speak to the quality or services. - Jun 2012
