Do you have any recommendations regarding mobile phones? Did you keep your home-country plan or use a local provider?
If you can, use Google Fi. For local service, NCell is pretty reliable in the city. Rural areas use Nepal Telecom. NCell phones will not work on the Nepal Telecom network and vice versa. - Jun 2024
You can get a phone plan here, and I think it is affordable (don't know exact price since my employer pays for mine). I retained my U.S. phone plan to keep my number and communicate with family/friends. - Aug 2022
Everyone uses Ncell. I pay $10/month. It's ok, but if you have any problem with the service, it will be terrible trying to fix it. - Aug 2019
If you want a smart phone, bring it with you. iphones, etc. are available here, but can be expensive. The local cell service is 3G, and generally very good. - Aug 2015
Embassy provides phones for employees and spouses. Otherwise phones are easily available via NCell or other dealers. Service is dirt cheap and you can get your phone unlocked easily. - May 2014

NTC has 3G networking, but NCell is also decently reliable. I jail-broke my iphone and put in the local NCell SIM. - Sep 2010
