What kinds of gyms or other sports/workout facilities are available? Are they expensive?

Haven't tried the local gyms, but there are workout facilities and pools at the various housing compounds and at the Embassy. Also tennis courts, volleyball areas, and soccer fields. Fitness trainers for a variety of sports will come to the compounds. - Jun 2024

We have a well-equipped gym and a small pool on our compound. They are free. Transcorp Hilton has a gym and classes, but there are some classes on some compounds as well and personal trainers don't cost much either. - Sep 2019

Don't now much about that. We use the one at the Hilton as we can also then swim, or play tennis and have dinner. There is one stable for horse riding that I'm aware of and has a German trainer. Very odd set up, with a variety of equally odd horses. - Feb 2019

Most compounds have gyms, there is a small gym at the Embassy. There are some private ones on the economy as well. - Apr 2018

The employee association has a separate gym membership, which includes decent (but limited) gyms at the embassy, Route 66, and a few of the housing compounds. I'm not aware of any commercial gyms. - Apr 2017

There are gyms and workout areas, and they are reasonable. But the quality varies. - Jun 2016

There is a gym at the US Embassy and also at a couple of the USG housing compounds. - Aug 2015

RT. 66 has a small gym open to Association members. I believe some of the other compounds have equipment. I don't believe any one uses a gym outside of an Embassy building. No idea of costs. - Jun 2015

Yes, small gym at 66. Some local gyms but don't know the price. - Nov 2014

Yes, but don't know what the costs would be. - Aug 2014

A few expensive gyms that aren't really up to U.S. standards. Some tiny workout rooms in some USG provided housing. There are organized HASH and DASH running groups which I don't personally think are safe (too many expats very obviously in the same place every week at the same time). All USG housing has community pools so if you like to swim you can do lots of that. One USG compound is large enough to run but it's more like running on a track than a trail. - May 2014

Yes, but expensive. Three independent gyms, plus one at the Hilton. - May 2013

There are several places, three of which are B-Natural (also a spa), the Hilton, and the Protea Asokoro hotel. I know that the Hilton is about $1,000 per year (there is a discount for US Embassy staff). None of the options is particularly cheap, and these facilities do not generally measure up to facilities available at many other posts. - Jun 2009

Expensive hotel gyms. - Mar 2009
