Tbilisi - Post Report Question and Answers
Are qualified veterinarians and/or good kennel services available? Do animals need to be quarantined upon entry to the country? Are there other considerations regarding pets that are particular to this country?
A rabies vaccine is a must for both humans and animals. - Aug 2024
No. In my opinion, veterinarians here are really bad. There are two places that are okay, but I would try to get out of here to do anything with your pet or your own physical health. There are lots of CDC rules about taking your dog back to the U.S. from here. Pet owners are generally aggressive with their dogs, so the dogs are generally aggressive. There are lots of people with fighting dog breeds and a single, aggressive, fighting dog will take up the whole dog park while the owner chats with friends for hours. There are thousands of street dogs here and they are everywhere. Oddly enough, the ones in the city are fairly friendly and docile. The ones outside the city center are more aggressive as they have territories and are less accustomed to seeing other dogs and humans. You will likely not be able to walk your dog anywhere unless you live downtown in the city center. - Aug 2024
Vets are okay… YMMV. Kennels and boarding are not great but 1-2 are acceptable. - Aug 2023
Services are available, but lots of friendly street dogs. - Sep 2022
We have a dog at post. Vets are good and you can get a groomer. Import and export can be a pain. - Jun 2020
We used the veterinary clinic at the Agricultural College in Dighomi. There is also a new vet in Vake. Vets are not properly trained in Georgia. The ones at the Agricultural College have had training from the outside, and their techs are very nice. Although their clinic is cleaner than most of the other vets I've been to in Georgia, sterile surgical conditions are not standard there, unfortunately. Still, they took good care of my dog. - Jan 2019
No quarantine for pets, but there is a lot of official Georgian stamps on paperwork, spread between 3 different govt offices that took me all night long to navigate when my dog arrived as cargo. Large dogs have issues getting back out of Georgia. We have found several quality vets here. If you do not have a dog, but would like one, this is a great place to adopt a dog. - May 2016
No quarantine is required and there are a few decent vets. - Jul 2014
