Tbilisi - Post Report Question and Answers
What is your home city/country? How long is the trip to post from there, with what connections? How easy/difficult is it to travel to this city/country?
It takes about 20-23 hours to get to Tbilisi from DC. A bit of a hike. - Aug 2024
Washington, DC. There are no direct flights and getting there can be quite long. Flights mostly leave from Tbilisi in the really early hours of the morning. I recommend avoiding Georgian Airways at all costs. The conditions are quite bad and in my opinion, the aircraft look questionable. Be prepared for complete chaos when you try to fly out, or when you get to the flight that goes to Tbilisi. People don't make lines, there is a lot of pushing and once the aircraft's wheels touch the ground, the people at the back of the plane rush forward to get as close to the door as possible. I have heard that several people in our embassy reporting having items taken from them during this point in the flight. - Aug 2024
The United States, easy flight through Qatar or Munich to get there. Getting out Georgia into the region or elsewhere is tricky - flights are at odd times in the middle of the night, making a quick regional weekend jaunt significantly less appealing. The airport is small yet has outsized lines and is not well run. Travel within Georgia is relatively easy with a car but driving is some of the most unsafe I’ve encountered anywhere in the world. - Aug 2023
Los Angeles, CA. Traveled from Washington DC during the summer of 2020. Due to this, it was a chartered flight from Amsterdam to Tbilisi. It took about 18 hours. Now, there are many flights from Europe. - Sep 2022
From Wisconsin, it is a 30+ hour trip. The most difficult part is the time difference. Basically, you arrive two days after leaving the US. - Jun 2020

Western PA - Approximately 26 hours door-to-door. We fly either through Istanbul or Munich (with an nine hour layover on the return)- flights out of Tbilisi are limited. Also, they often depart/arrive between 3:30 and 5:30 am. It's a rough trip. - Apr 2017
