Are local sports classes and/or activities available for kids?

After school sports are available at OIS. My kids loved the variety of offerings, but they are largely recreational. If you are looking for something more competitive, try the local club teams. Some clubs are more friendlier to foreigners than others. Some are more English-friendly. Your kid will probably miss a lot in local language, but coaches will often repeat instructions in English as well. At the high school level, sports at OIS are pretty lacking. Teams are formed based around tournaments. They have a few practices and travel to compete in the tournament. It's fun for the kids, but they won't likely develop as an athlete at OIS alone. - Jan 2020
Oslo International School offers many different kinds of after-school activities for a cost. Music lessons at OIS are absurdly expensive. There is no school bus after the activities, so you will need to pick up your child at the school, unless they are old enough to take public transit themselves. - Dec 2016

Yes, the international school offers a variety of programs: basketball, soccer, floor-ball (programs are usually for 2 or 3 grade levels. Most Norwegian neighborhoods have sports teams affliated with the local school. - Aug 2011
