Do you have any recommendations regarding mobile phones? Did you keep your home-country plan or use a local provider?
Easy to find, I had a dual-SIM in my Google Fi phone which worked really well. Easy to top up as needed. - Oct 2023
We had dual sim iPhones and kept our US number with Google Fi and the local number with Vodaphone. Google fi is great (if you are not military or diplomats, then prolonged data use overseas will get your number shut off). Any of the local providers is fine, but Vodaphone is most folks preferred carrier. - Jan 2023
Google Fi is hit or miss here. - Mar 2022
We brought our unlocked phones. Used a local provider. Much cheaper than the U.S. - Jan 2020
There are lots of pay as you go options where you top up. It's very easy. We have WIND. That and Vodafone are the two more popular options. - Mar 2018
Bring a mobile phone with you. Local market phones are very expensive. - Feb 2018
The pay as you go system works well. - Oct 2017
The main companies are Vodafone and WIND. We were happy with the level of service with Vodafone. We know some people who preferred WIND. - Dec 2016
No trouble with cell service. My service even worked outside of Greece in Italy. The cost depends on the service. Buying a cell phone is expensive, but you can buy a SIM and use it in a U.S. phone. - Sep 2013
Cell phones are everywhere and almost all of the country has coverage. Athens is completely covered by both GSM 900 MHz and 1800MHz, so you will need a multi-band phone or buy one there. Smartphones are available, but expensive, and so are the rates. - Jul 2012
Available and easy. - Jun 2010
Greece has plenty of modern cell phone companies, cost are about the same in U.S. - Jan 2009
Widely available. Get a pay-as-you-go one to save money. - Dec 2008
I have a phone with a plan and we have a prepaid phone as a backup. Both are easy enough and cheap enough to use. The folks at the stores are usually helpful with initial setup and problem solving. - Jun 2008
