Stuttgart - School Report Question and Answers
How would you rate the school's support and welcome/integration of new students and their families, and why?
There is not much by way of support for intergrating new students that I found. We were told that incoming families got a sponsor, but we never heard from anyone. There do appear to be parents groups; a colleague of mine whose children also attend said he was in a ISS parent group that did dinners and other outings together. So maybe there is some support/integration if you find the right person but we never did. - Jun 2023
Zero. We attended the back to school picnic for families. We sat at a table, ate our food, and not a single person talked to us or introduced themselves. I began a conversation with a family and after a few minutes, they stood up and left. After two years at the school, I have not met a single person, nor been invited to any parent events. It is a very isolating experience. We were shown nothing about the community. Zero help with establishment of utilities, doctors, shopping. A real estate person was provided to assist in finding a home, but she was not helpful. I found an apartment on my own. My son is accustomed to moving and quickly located a few mates who were also new to the school; however, he spends most of his time at home alone (prior to lockdown). Students do not seem to hang out and mingle. There have been a few parties; otherwise nothing. Not the international setting and warm community of which we are accustomed. - Jan 2021
Mixed. The students do a nice job onboarding new students, and the school makes an effort to help families from Asia with home language instruction, etc, but there is no particular outreach to new families. We had a sponsor, who we never met (she told us we could stop by her house if we wanted). No one gave suggestions on finding sports or activities. There are a few familiarization tours of hospitals and how to shop at a German grocery store. - Sep 2020
