Colombo - School Report Question and Answers

How would you rate the school's support and welcome/integration of new students and their families, and why?

All three of my kids were offered student “ambassador” support (meaning kids that were already enrolled who reached out to them prior to arriving). The kids reaching out to my eldest became his dearest friends; they are still in touch regularly even though they are all at different universities. I think this is a point I feel really strongly about, and made them respond to the outreach even though they were not super excited about it initially (I mean, what teenager wants to write to a kid they don’t know?). They have all participated in a similar outreach each year to new kids. We arrived in COVID times so parent welcome wasn’t awesome, but I do know it is better know, and participate as a new parent buddy family myself. We have to build the community we want, right? - Oct 2024

The school does a reasonably good job of welcoming new families. There is a school / parent network, student ambassadors, and other welcome efforts in place. Still, it took us a year to feel like we really had "landed" and knew what to expect. - Sep 2024

In my opinion, poor. The school has student ambassadors who are supposed to reach out to new students in the summer. The school failed to give one of my kids an ambassador. The orientation was confusing. They expect 1 parent with each child but I have 3 kids so this was impossible for me. It was confusing where we were supposed to be and when. Not enough time was allotted to buy PE kits before the next session. An elementary student gave us our tour. While cute, the student could not answer questions and spoke quietly so it was hard to hear. - Jan 2024
